While many stories have been written about house maids stealing from their masters, an interesting story is before the Zambian courts of law regarding a master stealing from the maid.

The Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC)has arrested a former lawyer of the Examinations Council of Zambia for theft of about 9 million Kwacha.
DEC spokesperson John Nyawali says Margaret Vikali Mwale, aged 50, allegedly stole the money meant for her maid’s salary which the Examinations Council of Zambia was paying.
Accordingly, Ms. Mwale in her capacity as Council Secretary while at the Examinations Council of Zambia on dates unknown but between October, 2006 to August 2007 allegedly stole over nine million Kwacha by way of diverting the maid’s monthly salary to her personal use.

Mr. Nyawali also says the DEC has arrested 149 people countrywide in the last 10 days for trafficking in various quantities of cannabis with a total weight of 250 kilograms.
“Among those arrested is Tony Phiri, a 28 year old businessman of Chawama Township who was found in possession of two sachets of cocaine. This is sad because young people are engaging in such immoral and dangerous vices,” Mr. Nyawali told the Zambian Times.
All the suspects are detained in Police custody awaiting trials.
